The story behind ThoughtsFromGeeks.com

In this post, I will discuss how and why I started my blog ThoughtsFromGeeks.com, even though I own more than 50 websites and some of which are getting millions of impressions every month.

Since I am not a famous blogger, let me introduce myself. I am a professional blogger, living in Bangalore, India. In my heart, I am a normal Indian from a middle class family in Malayattor - a small village in Kerala.

I amwas a software developer with the title "Consulting Engineer" at Omnicell Inc, USA. I quit my American job 3 months back and returned to India and changed my title to "jobless". Since that title was not really exciting to tell others, I started calling my self Professional Blogger.

Career Background

I started my career with SRA Systems, Chennai in 1996. I moved to USA in 1999 and have been living in USA on long term on site assignments. In 2003, I joined HP India, but was transferred to USA again as soon as I joined. In 2006, I joined Omnicell Inc, an American company. After living the stressful job of a software professional for about 14 years, I decided to quit my job and return to India to run my own websites and focus full time on blogging.

I started SpiderWorks Technologies Pvt Ltd, India in 2004 when my websites started becoming popular. Since I was in USA, this company was more or less passive and was used as an umbrella to legally operate my websites while I was running the websites from USA.

In 2011, after I returned from USA for good, I started LoneStar Informatics LLP, based out of Bangalore since we decided to settle down in Bangalore.

My Websites and the SpiderNetwork

I started my first website SpiderKerala.com on 14 Sep 2010 and 10 days later I started TonyJohn.com. SpiderKerala.com was started with the aim of learning ASP programming and also out of enthusiasm to try my hands on websites.

As of today, I have nearly 100 domains registered in my name and about 50 of them are active websites. I own several popular websites and some of them receive millions of page views every month. Some of the most popular websites I run are IndiaStudyChannel.com, dotnetspider.com, AspSpider.com and Techulator.com.

Birth of ThoughtsFromGeeks.com

I have been running several successful websites but I never considered myself for a position in the bloggers community. I have been running the websites from USA and so I was completely out of touch with other bloggers and webmasters from India. Since I returned to India for good and wanted to focus more on blogging, I was looking for various options. I went through the success stories of many other bloggers including Amit Bhawani, who made a fortune out of a blog in his own name. Even though my websites are making good revenue with user generated content, I wanted to have a blog of my own where my posts will not get lost among hundreds of user posts. Inspired by Amit's success story, I decided to promote my personal blog TonyJohn.com. In fact, I went ahead and upgraded the scripts and created a lot of categories to start regular blogging. But I was bit reluctant on how well a blog in a person's name will be accepted by the web community. Within few days, I saw an update from Amit saying he is moving away from his personal blog and renaming his blog to TechAdvices.com because he has limitations on getting acceptance for the blog in his name. This confirmed my fears and I decided to move away from my personal blog. It wasn't too late since I had only few posts in the blog.

I was looking for a neutral domain name where I can blog about anything I feel like writing. After couple of days of collective thinking with my family, I came up with this name "ThoughtsFromGeeks.com". After throwing up this name and idea to few others and getting the nod from them, I went ahead and launched ThoughtsFromGeeks.com on 20 Sep 2011.

That is the short story behind ThoughtsFromGeeks.com. Stay tuned for a lot of posts here. I will be writing a lot about my return from USA to India and many other topics.
