St Patrick's Academy, Bangalore
St Patrick's Academy, Bangalore is located about 5km from the Outer Ring road, towards Sarjapur. This school was started in academic year 2010 and had nursery to 3rd standard on first year. This academic year they started 4th and 5th standards and next year they will add 6th standard.
This is a not-for-profit school run by the Patrician brothers who run some very good schools in India. Considering the developments going on in this school, it has the potential to become one of the best schools in Bangalore.
Infrastructure, buildings and campus
While looking for admission for our kids, I looked at several schools in Bangalore. Many schools which claim to be the international schools have nothing but concrete buildings. There are no play grounds or greenery. St Patrick's Academy has a great campus spread across at least 8 acres of land. There is a huge play ground for kids which includes an upcoming skating ground and basket ball court. There is a good library, computer lab and science lab.
Lot of infrastructure is still being developed. They have plans to add one more building to the campus in future. Works on basket ball court is just started. The building looks really great.
Location of St Patrick's Academy, Bangalore: There are several schools in Sarjapur Road area, but this school is located on the Sarjapur main road itself. The only other school in the main road is St Peters, which is closer to outer ring road.
Academics and extra curricular activities
The school is very focused on academics while giving lot of importance for overall development of the children through extra curricular activities. This school is a great choice for parents who are looking for schools which give equal importance for academics and extra curricular activities. They follow ICSE syllabus, which is pretty heavy.
Yoga, Aerobics, dance, music etc are part of the curriculum. All kids are expected to participate in these programs.
There are lot of optional extra curricular activities offered at a fees after school hours. Some of the extra curricular programs offered are:
2. Instruments/Keyboard etc.
Fees in St Patrick's Academy, Bangalore
Even though this school offers high quality education and have great infrastructure, they charge very moderate fees. Unlike many other schools in Bangalore, there is no donation to get admission. They charge a one time maintenance/development charge of Rs 15,000 which is very reasonable. The tuition fees per year is 13,800 to 20,000 depending on the class.
I think the low fees in the school has a negative impact too. Many people who are looking for the cheapest school in the area land up here, who give no importance for education. Teachers seem to have a tough time managing such kids when their parents give no support to the children.
The management and teachers
If you have visited the school, you may notice that the principal is a great person, who is a "brother" at "The Congregation of the Brothers of St.Patrick". He is a very cool person who have lot of patience to sit and explain the same thing over and over again to every parent who have a lot of queries about the school. You can walk in to his room with no prior appointment. I have heard about many other schools in Bangalore where you cannot even go anywhere near the Principal's room unless you are ready to "buy" an admission!
At St Patric's, you can approach the principal or head mistress to get any of your concerns addressed.
What I don't like in St Patrick's academy, Bangalore
Some of the Saturdays (typically, alternate Saturdays but not always) are working days at St Patrick's. I have no issues with that. But what I don't like is, whenever there is a holiday on Friday, they will make the following Saturday working day. You can't really plan some vacation combining the holidays with the week ends. I really wish if the management consider the nearby holidays and avoid making those Saturdays working day. (I went and spoke to Principal once about it and he said that was never done on purpose and he will keep that in mind when he prepare the calendar for next academic year).
Another negative point I see with the school is, there are many students who do not perform well in the academics, which affects the overall teaching quality. According to the management, this happens because the admission process is very transparent here and due to the low fees, lot of people who just want the cheapest education end up here. I wish they could select the children from the families who really look for good education and not cheap education. But it is against the law in India and no interview or entrance test is allowed for LKG/Nursery admission.
Teachers are very caring, dedicated and seem to love their profession. But I think St Patrick's should hire many more teachers with diversified skills and talents.
This is the perfect way to break down this ionfrmtaion.
Nicely explained! May be its time to update the information as there has been many recent changes in the facilities and fee structures. BTW, the new block is ready to be commissioned.
Can someone throw lights on the current fee structure. I also heard that the students are overloaded. is it true?
What is the new fees structure? I am searching for a school for my kid, for admission in 2016 to Class I?
