How to get a verified badge and vanity URL for your Google+ Page

Lot of people who created Google+ pages are looking for advanced features like vanity URL like the Facebook does. In Facebook, you can create a vanity url for your Facebook page if 25 people have LIKEd your page. Also, the vanity URL is unique and is a good marketing point for many brands.

Unfortunately, it does not work in the same way with Google+ pages. As of now, Google does not allow vanity urls and unique pages names for Google+ pages. This means, there could be several Google+ Pages with the same name. Google endorses the official page by adding a "verified" label to the verified official brand pages.

However, in the Google+ Pages forum, lot of people are complaining about this and asking for the vanity/unique urls for the pages. Their main argument is, the current Google+ urls are not really easy to remember and not very friendly for marketing purposes. For example, if a company want to promote its Google+ Page in a TV show, it is not very cool to advertise the current long URL.

Here is the response from a Google employee in the Google+ forum:

Our team will not be securing vanity URLs for pages. Instead, verification badges are the tool we're using to prove legitimacy. Verification badges are designed to help our users find what they're looking for by ensuring that people, brands and businesses that are subject to broad-based impersonation are protected. Since this is primarily a security mechanism, there's no way to apply for a verification badge. If we think you or your page might benefit from a badge, we'll reach out directly to verify you.

Since the vanity URLs and verified badge is not an option for most of us, our best bet is to use the Google Connect feature to link our websites to the Google+ pages.
